FS#2223 - Terrain/ground is dark
I can see the terrain texture in the distance, but around me all is black (terrain, not rocks or trees).
Tried it with two different characters (both dermorian). Happens on Ojaroads and BDroads, but not just outside Hydlaa through the merchants gate heading for Oja. I guess it’s a problem with the new kind of terrain implemented.

I have Ubuntu 8.04, radeon hd 3450 (256MB), fglrx 8.52, 1GB RAM.

Happened platform independent there. All victims seemed to have ATI cards, though.
True. I have an ATI card:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M52 [Mobility Radeon X1300]
I will try this at home, where I have an nVidia card, and will report.
With an nVidia card (same client version, same chars), I don’t have this problem.
Also, I thought it was a problem with shadows, since the darkness seems to follow you around, but disabling shadows does not fix it.
Happens on XP_Pro.SP3 + ATI Radeon 9800 Pro too.

Besides the many errors and warnings that are quite normal to see, there are two things that I am not sure I saw before:
This could mean (part of) the dirt texture could not be found. A low res version for further away is there, but the high res for nearby is not. Just a guess :)
I never saw this before I think. But it seems to be for another map.
Re-opened. Especially things that happen to many different hardware (as this one), we DO want to have it fixed. Even if we have no clue how to, that is no reason to close the bug, or to decide we will not fix it.
I dont fully agree, if the issue is with someones graphics card drivers we cant fix it, same as we have no way to fix the way terrain looks for those with intel graphics cards under windows, leaving it open makes it look like we will have a way to fix it, and unless we have devs with this exact hardware it will be very hard to attempt to fix, and even harder if the problem is in CS not PS.
When we know it is because the graphics card manufacturer did not make a correct driver, you are right. If it is not (as this is is happening for ATI, intel, nvidia), there should be a way to fix this in either CS or PS. Even if we do not know how, there is no reason not to have a report about this. Again, this is not with ‘someones’ graphics card, but with many different ones, and as long as we do not know whether this is ps (incorrect maps) or cs (incoorrect other things) there is a use for this report.
I am going to ask Xordan to look into this. Sorry Xordan, you’re the CS golden-boy, you get the bug.
With new maps, this is probably gone. In any case, test team does not see this (and I did have similar problems before). If problems occur with new 0.5 art, please reopen (or create a new report). Closing this for now.
