FS#2913 - wtower: Wrong exit portal on top of Iron Tower

As long as I stand on the ladder up to the roof of the tall windowless Iron Xacha Tower, I can see the roof; even out of the roof door with the right 3rd person view angle I can look at the top of the roof, and I see Hydlaa.

But as soon as I pass the exit portal, I don’t see the tower roof, and neither anything of Hydlaa.

This effect is persistent to me. Even if I log out on top of the tower, and log in later, I stand on an invisible roof and can look down into the tower, and the rest outside is void (”Hall of Mirror”). Walking back to the roof door might let you fall down behind the ladder.

Reporting this bug to list it in the collection of map bugs to be fixed. As a workaround, there is currently a “Portal” waysign at the highest stairhead below the roof.

This problem has been around for 3 years or more, I remember it when I first started playing. Having said that, I tested this portal a few days ago and it didn’t work; I then tested after the fix for PS#1796 (it was one of the affected portals) and it worked fine; so this may be either or a combination of both issues, one of which is fixed.

If i remember correctly, jumping up off the top of the ladder seemed to work better (don’t jump too far!); maybe the portal is slightly smaller than the actual hole and can be missed? The strange effect seen in your screenshot is totally normal, it just means you are still in the wtowertop sector rather than hydlaa_plaza; except in a place where you are not supposed to be able to get to.

I’ll investigate this more later.

Tested in game; the portal is still the same as it was before PS#1796 came and went.

Walking up the ladder doesn’t go through the portal, but jumping off the top rung into the hole at an angle does.

Yes it seems that fixing PS#1796 fixed the issue originally described by Ligh.
But since the problem with the portal on top of wtower seems to appear nowhere on the bugtracker, even though it’s been around for ages now, I suggest to leave this entry opened.

The issue with horizontal portals is described in a task about leaving the sewers. Both the broken floor near Percival and the stairway down into the basement of Kada-El’s tavern use horizontal portals, and they show this second issue as well, that you get “Halls of Mirrors” while you are passing such portals.

This bug tracker task is about a “Hall of Mirrors” even after the character passed the portal. And this one seems to be fixed.

My tests and screenshots above were with all recent cs fixes (apart from the very recent “heavy portal” fix, which as far as I know aren’t used at all in ps; in any case I’ve only seen the problem with walktest and castle map).

This happens indeed if you exit the stairs normally, if you jump out however, I see everything as normal.
(tested with latest maps/CS/PS as of this moment)

Increasing severity so this can be looked at by Talad when he fixes that map, or by testers, if there is a new version of it.

Found this at lower severity. Increased to critical so it gets another look. Added testers to have a look with latest art, and to see if this should stay critical.
