FS#1946 - No textures are loaded right from the start in certain situations

Hello,

sometimes PS doesn’t load any textures at all. This has happened with the new 0.4.xx-version only but never before. And here is how the screen looks like in those cases:
http://img176.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture5zw6.png

There are at least two situations in which that seems to happen everytime:

1. When running PS in fullscreen, regardless the resolution
2. When I restart PS by hitting the “relaunch”-button (the client crashes everytime it is ended, no matter how, and OSX shows a requester then, saying “… quit unexpectedly - ignore/report/relaunch”

If I use “ignore” and start the client anew, it works fine.

Noone besides the reporter every managed to duplicate this bug, plus it's been 9 months since last response. Reopen if it can be duplicated with upcoming release or if more people show up who have this.

I should add that the same thing happens with the compiled versions (stable and trunk). No textures are loaded, never, as it seems. So this seems to be a bug that was there in 0.4.01 but got worse in all versions that came after it

Okay, the situation got worse with the last update. Now, it seems it *never* loads the textures for the 3D-Maps. I have tried it for the last 45 minutes, restarting the client dozens of times. Does not work at all. :(

okay, I think I have found something that makes this bug reproducable. I had turned sound-loading off in pssetup. But when I turned it on (removed the checkmark), the textures are loaded *everytime*. And vice versa! No sound loaded = no textures loaded. Sound loaded = textures are there.

Mrokii commented on 23.09.2008 17:12

And a new thing, probably related:

As of today, if I have the sound enabled with the official client, no 3d-data gets loaded (or so it seems). What happens is: On Character-selection-screen the area where the podium and the turning character should appear is completely black. And when I load the game itself, the graphic that is shown while loading isn’t replaced with the ps-world, but stays. All that is loaded are the gui-elemens And when I move them they “smear” on the screen, meaning the window isn’t properly redrawn, showing lots and lots of graphical copies of the gui-elements over each other. The same goes for the cursor.
If I disable the sound however, the 3d-data gets loaded again, just without textures.
The interesting thing is that all of that does not happen with the self-compiled version. Textures are loaded properly there, as well as the 3d-data.

marking new as this may be a ppc mac issue and we have no other ppc mac user around to verify.

assigning to Trymm for future debugging

Is this still happening, and how is this related to the other ppc map problems? ANd possibly  bug 2449 ?

Mrokii commented on 01.12.2008 08:09

yes, this still happens. The problem is that my Mac client changes behaviour over periods of weeks (meaning: different crashes/behaviour). In general, the textures are almost never loaded when I try to run the client twice without restarting the whole system in between. One thing I have noticed is that it *seems* as if it is more likely to work again (textures being loaded) if I wait a longer time (maybe an hour) before I try to start the client a second time.

Mrokii commented on 02.12.2008 14:24

another addition: When I do not just doubleclick the application but start the execute *inside* the application-package via the terminal, it loads fine more often. This is true for starting the self-built-client also. Though the same executable, there seems to be a difference between those two ways to start the client.
