FS#1815 - Crash upon trying to load magicshop map

I’ve run into a compilation error attempting to load the magicshop map which causes the game to crash. I’ve tested this with two alts on one account and another on a separate account, and it’s happened for all three, multiple times. Just in case it was a corrupted file or something similar, I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, but no dice.

This is probably more log than is needed, but I’m a complete newbie when it comes to this kind of thing and I don’t know what’s important and what isn’t. Any clue what’s up?

closing as duplicate of  bug 1861  as that is the reason for this crash. nothing wrong with the map

Caarrie commented on 02.07.2008 13:09

what os are you on and what are your system stats? the error at the end has nothing to do with the issue of the crash.

Peanuts commented on 02.07.2008 18:00

I'm running Mac OSX Tiger.

Computer type: Macbook
Mac OS Version (x.x.x): 10.5.1 (Leopard ftw!)
Processor (speed, type): 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
RAM: 512 MB Video Card (type, VRAM): GMA 950

I've attempted Solution #1 from the readme-osx file, and just in case tried the solution here as well: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=30575.0 Neither was successful.

I made a Kran alt to test if the issue happens on any other map - I know it doesn't with the Hydlaa or Oja areas - and had the same issue arise when attempting to leave Gorgontid.

Peanuts commented on 03.07.2008 20:13

Discovered today that this happens when trying to enter the Arena map, also.

Steven Schwartfeger commented on 04.07.2008 02:03

I'm almost certain this is another duplicate of  FS#1796 .

edit: to make myself more clear, does this happen just as you leave the forest "tunnel", where you should be coming out into the open? And is it like walking into a portal to nowhere, as in you can't see the magic shop building, or can you see it?

Peanuts commented on 04.07.2008 02:12

It could be related? I've had the "fall off the map" thing happen elsewhere (most notably on the Oja1 map). Though there it doesn't crash, just drops me in the wrong location.

This is actually preventing me from logging back in on the characters who attempt to go into these areas - it flat out refuses to let me in on the affected maps. I'm not sure if there's something I can test to see whether it's the same issue, but I'm game to try any suggestions.

Steven Schwartfeger commented on 04.07.2008 07:05

Hmm, not being able to login is a slightly different issue, as my experience with the cause of  FS#1796  never stopped the map from loading or working, just the portal to the next map. This may be a mac issue, I'm on linux, so I'll leave it to the mac tester.

Have you run the updater to make sure you are fully up to date? Another thing you can try, is "./psupdater CheckIntegrity" to make sure nothing is missing or corrupted.

Dajoji commented on 05.07.2008 02:36

This started to happen to me today, after running the updater today (after report  FS#1861  was filed and closed, http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=32934.0) the problem persists. If I restore myself in another area and then teleport to the magic shop the client freezes after taking a few steps.

Edit: Check  FS#1838  for the "out of bounds" bug (which I am also experiencing).

I run PS on a PowerBook G4, OSX.3.9.

svuun ingame commented on 05.07.2008 02:40

Occured twice near the magic shop. Screen just freezes. I was moved by Kerol to another part of the magic shop map and it froze within seconds of logging in. Transported to Hydlaa plaza and client responded normally.

system: win xp sp 2

This also happened to me after I ran the psupdater_static via Terminal, then generally went exploring. I play in window mode not full-screen. Client window froze after turning right at the intersection in the Forest and moving towards the Magic Shop. I was running at the time. Not able to input a /pos command. It was just passed the Night Mushroom spawn point and entering the widened area of the path that the freeze occurred. [GM] Kerol moved me to Hydlaa Plaza where client seems to work without problems.

Steven Schwartfeger commented on 05.07.2008 04:32

Ok, it seems to be because of a mesh that won't load, see  FS#1861 . For now, just don't go to that map; hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Sean commented on 05.07.2008 14:36

I also have this problem, currently have 2 alts stuck there. Found this after getting stuck. Running Windows XP, 2gb ram, Gforce 6800 Video card.
I was able to get one alt out of this area, it took about a dozen attempts, but if you can get turned around, take a few steps before lockup, you will get out of there eventually.
