FS#4276 - Item labels appearance is unreliable

Loggin in at the Hydlaa Plaza, I see labels of apples at the trees.

Coming from outside (e.g. from Gugrontid), I can’t make the item labels appear, not even by “/repaintlabels force” or by switching labels in the options off and back on.

The task blocks these from closing

Couldn’t reproduce.

I can confirm the issue on W2k. Item labels appear for me only about half of the time, and clicking on them does not help, even in the zone I am in on startup.

Duplicate of PS#3635? Or is it just with item labels? (though both could be related)
Does the crash mentionned there still happen for you LigH?

Seytra commented on 22.03.2010 00:52

Maybe related, though I did not get any missing non-item labels recently, and the frequency of this is much higher than the missing NPC / player labels. Also, it doesn’t require a sector change AFAIK, maybe it needs things getting into view / load / whatever radius? The garden has so many flowers that some of them are missing their labels most of the time, and near Harnquist I saw some apples with and some without labels at the same time. /repaintlabels did not crash, but it never did.

Edit: a screenie:

Edit 2: as one can see, two of the three chairs are also missing their labels.

Mario Rohkrämer commented on 22.03.2010 03:27

The above mentioned crash trying to repaint missing avatar labels did not occur amynore (probably because I did not experience missing avatar labels anymore).

Seytra commented on 10.04.2010 01:06

Right, I just got two MOB labels missing, and /repaintlabels crashed on them. I then tried it again with an apple and it did not crash, so there definitely is a difference, but that may be due to the difference in the owners of the labels instead of the underlying reason.

It is easy to confirm today: Walk between the full market kiosks on the Hydlaa plaza and the table rows on the Laanx Temple Green. You’ll notice that the number of items with visible labels is limited.

RlyDontKnow commented on 20.05.2010 18:48

are you sure you’re expecting the right thing? labels being always visible doesn’t mean *all* labels are always visible. the range in which the labels are visible is rather small after all (7m for items, 14m for actors)

Mario Rohkrämer commented on 20.05.2010 19:29

It is not about the range, but about the number. Some item labels get visible when you are close enough, some never show their label even when you touch them with your feet.

Venalan commented on 11.09.2014 16:22

I tried to see if this was still happening, but on the test and production server in an area with about 100 items I could see all labels for all items. does this still happen with anyone? If not we can close this.

Mario Rohkrämer commented on 12.09.2014 05:49

I don’t remember any more regularly missing labels.
